Hyderabad to Lakshadweep islands

Rendezvous at the Coral Paradise - Sun kissed beauty of nature

Lakshadweep islands are undoubtedly India’s best kept secret.

Having 36 coral islands stroked with a picturesque landscapes and amber kissed beaches, this is a nature lover’s paradise.

Lakshadweep is a group of islands situated some 400 km off India's west coast in the Arabian Sea. It is India’s smallest Union Territory and is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km.

You are guaranteed a soothing vacation muddled only with long walks on never ending shorelines in this aqueous jewel - Lakshadweep islands.

How to reach Lakshadweep?

Getting here is not much of an issue. The islands are well connected by regular flights and ships from Kochi. Well, I chose to do the seaways.

The package I chose was a 5 day plan which was priced around 25000 - 26000 INR per head for a shared AC cabin which includes Food (Veg or Non-Veg ), and Transfer to Islands.

More information on various packages? Do check out www.lakshadweeptourism.com

Best time to Visit Lakshadweep?

With a typical tropical climate, I’d suggest the best time to visit the islands is between October and March when it is comparatively cooler and drier.

Language they speak in Lakshadweep

They have a separate language called Jasiri although these days spoken in major parts of the island group. Jasiri is a mix of Arabic, Malayalam, Hindi and Mahl.

My 5 day Itinerary to visit Lakshadweep

Day 01 - Kochi to Kavaratti Island

Day 02 - Kavaratti Island Exploration

Day 03 - Minicoy Island Exploration

Day 04 - Kadamat Island Exploration

Day 05 - Cruise back to Kochi Port.

This place is best discovered drifting on foot and taking a drive along the shores, basking away in nature’s glory.

DAY - 01

Kochi to Kavaratti Island

Embarkation process from the ship started pretty early which I did not expect.  Local fishermen’s’ boats ferried us to the island.

Deep inside I was preparing myself from becoming sea sick, after all I have to stay during the course in the ship only. :D

I have witnessed the Sun rise and Sun set in the mountains and always loved it. This sight in the sea is no less than that. Absolutely exuberant!

DAY - 02

Kavaratti Island Exploration

Kavaratti is the commercial capital of Lakshadweep. It is recognized as the capital city of all the 36 islands. The people of this island have a life of their own. They have their cars, buses for transport and even the roads are metalled and are pretty wide. So it can be considered as the largest of all the islands when it comes to area.

First impression of the island was pretty bad. I felt like I came to a place of massive colonisation. I saw small huts, broken boats lying along the shore and big boulders guarding the shoreline from the mighty waves.

I was a bit awestruck in the beginning until I reached the other side. When I landed on the north side of the island I had to pinch myself to believe that its not a dream but reality.

The abundant flora and fauna, absence of chaotic lives and wonderful natural landscapes add to the charisma of this place.

It seemed someone has painted the entire canvas, green tall coconut trees, shallow seas, and clear blue skies.

The dark waters of Arabian Sea and the jaded blue waters of the surrounding shallow seas filled in corals are brilliantly spotted all along the Kavaratti island shoreline.

Lakshadweep is nonchalant. It was a place to forget my worries, put the past behind and revel in the present’s beauty.

With in this heavenly lagoon, there are a plenty of water sports available for the enthusiasts.

This was a delightful sight! Boats go into the lagoon and are found in the jetty on the island.

DAY - 03

Minicoy Island Exploration

It is a crescent shaped island and has one of the largest lagoons in the region. The island has beautifully arranged villages. They are known as ‘Avah’.

A major attraction of Minicoy is the Lighthouse built by the Britishers in 1885.

With a scenic surrounding of coconut trees and white sand, this tower offers you a great vista of Virgin Island, Lakshadweep Island and Arabian Sea.

Minicoy stunned me completely as my first reaction was where the hell I am. Is this somewhere in India? I was so damn awestruck by its beauty.

C6462B33-A92D-4F4A-AA54-4D437B77D99E.jpeg

To my surprise the green foliage and the blue seas variety seemed much widespread here.

These islanders do have a life but of lesser expectations. Hence they are in peace. No violent acts or squander of things, speaking my heart out literally I found some peace there in Lakshadweep which will remain in my fond memory for a long time.

I stood in the shallow sea in a gigantic nervous excitement I explored the magnificent sea bed with all the fishes that came close to me and I made some soft touches to their fins and quickly they moved away.

Whether it is their boats or houses the locals surely have a penchant for colors in it all. We roamed through the villages to get acquainted with their culture. This island is ideal for tuna fishing.

DAY - 04

Kadamat Island Exploration

Kadmat is purely to quench your desire of spending a whole day in the captivating waters. We reached her early in the morning, catching a glorious sunrise on our way.

DD4DD327-353D-4C28-9574-B1B654E7D1FD.jpeg

There are so many water related activities available here that will leave you confused on where to begin with. There are snorkeling trips organized to nearby island reefs. Since we had already done that we decided to go sailing.

C5147BD6-2122-4ACA-B47C-67044FC63E14.jpeg

Far away from the bustling roads, narrow cluttered streets and maddening noise, I just lay by the beach listening to the calm waves whispering to the winds in a low, coy tone.

With a laid-back lifestyle, unlike our city, none will push you out of your way as you stand and stare. Do that because this place deserves every ounce of your attention!

Nature is at its best when left alone and this was clearly reinforced by Lakshadweep.

With beautiful corals, a stretching golden tinge on land and the contrasting colorful marine life all sums up how gorgeous this trip can get. And we got set to sail back to our base the next day.

Breath-taking pictures @arifismyname. Absolutely speechless buddy. I should do this trip soon too :) I wonder how have you not felt so seasick after being around on the beach for almost a week :D

How about the accommodation while you were on the islands? Are the cottages provided on the shore or inside the ship itself ?
